RolexVSFossil - Youtube

Considering the exponential growth in online video viewing with more than 4 billion videos viewed every day, YouTube has become one of the largest platforms for advertisement and marketing.  Companies can easily create and upload their own videos and can also advertise on other people’s videos. Also, with the universal Google search option, it’s not too hard to switch to the videos tab and easily look for the YouTube links for topic you might be searching about. Moreover, these YouTube videos can be shared and even embedded on most other social networking sites which makes it really convenient to keep consistency of advertisement data over different platforms.  But despite these facts, even the biggest brands don’t use YouTube to its full potential. The number of subscribers for brands are really low as compared to their likes, followers and viewers on other widely used social media applications like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
In this blog, we will look at the YouTube channels of the two famous watch brands – Rolex and Fossil. Rolex, being one of the top watch brands has 41,206 channel subscribers and Fossil, has 2,303 channel subscribers. There is no consistency in terms of the frequency of the videos uploaded to each of the channels.
Fossil posts less than 1 video/month on an average with the latest video posted 3 months ago. Existing videos from before are mostly about introducing the new brand products – watches or other accessories to the market. Videos has one line descriptions of what the video is about. Below listed are few of the most viewed videos on Fossil channel in sequence.

Rolex posts videos mostly for the release of new watches in the market with videos focusing on the look and specifications of the product. There are some videos highlighting the sports activities and other events led by Rolex and few other videos featuring famous celebrities promoting Rolex. Video Upload frequency on Rolex channel is not consistent just like Fossil. There are 5-6 videos posted a day when new product is releasing, with no videos at all for other months. Some of the most viewed and recent videos are listed below with the details.
New Rolex Cosmograph Daytona – Baselworld 2016 - 20,049 views, 1 day ago

The Rolex Way - The Day-Date 40 - 15,762 views, 3 months ago

The Rolex Way - Datejust - 111,333 views - 6 months ago

CHI Geneva 2015 highlights presented by Rolex - 7,683 views - 3 months ago

The most successful videos on each of the channels are about the new product releases. This is the main reason behind the popularity of the two videos. A new innovative design and video demo attracts lots of customers who eagerly wait for something new from their favourite brands.
This study of two of the most popular watch brands – YouTube channels definitely proved that the power of sharing videos on YouTube is definitely being underestimated by the marketing representatives of these brands and even other famous brands.
