Content Marking campaign idea - Sukhjit Singh

Marketing campaigns are really important for business growth and brand popularity. Campaigning strategies should be planned in a way to output a well-targeted message that reaches the target audience and encourages them to perform an action. It’s even more important for companies to perform a SWOT analysis to know their own company better. This way a brand can focus on improving on company’s weaknesses and can promote their brand on terms of its strengths.
In this blog, I will present my idea of marketing campaign I created for FOSSIL. I chose Fossil because of its good quality watches on affordable prices. I believe the target audience for Fossil is more as there are lots of customers out there, who want quality products but can’t afford other big brand names like Rolex, Rado etc. Fossil is already popular amongst people but can increase improve their business by introducing some striking campaigns that make people think at least once.
One of the similar campaigning idea is to introduce offers with every new product release. We all know how most brands start endorsing and promoting their products on social media before releasing the product. If these pre-release promotions could be combined with offers, they could do wonders. Some of the key strategies that would be part of this idea listed below:

·  Introducing offers (small side gifts, free prizes) for people who are the first ones to order the product (watch) in this case.
·         Offering free product to carefully chosen top fans of the brand as a token of their loyalty towards the brand.
·         Introducing watch recycling by offering to recycle an old FOSSIL watch and in return give customer some discount on new watch.
·         Offering discount cards for new products to top fan promoters of the brand.

Now, it’s really important for a campaign to focus on target audience who can be the product’s possible consumers. Audience for this type of plan could be anyone who loves watches, Fossil customers, Fossil fans, promoters etc.

Reviewing the budget before introducing these offers is equally essential. The offers can however be extended or contracted based on company’s budget. Crucially, Company’s profit should be higher that what’s spent on the campaign and campaign should be realistic and worth it.

My expected results and goals from this campaign include increased number of followers on social media, more number of customers interested in the product, increased sales during the time of campaign plan execution.

My idea is to introduce this campaign in holiday season – Christmas time mainly, because this is the time when people are out shopping for themselves and buying gifts for their friends and relatives. Company can expect increased sales with this idea at this time of the year.

Now that we have the campaign idea ready, and it’s the time to execute it, we need to inform people of the event. Advertising all offers and promotions on social media, TV, magazines, newspaper and pamphlets is the best way to reach out to the target audience.

Sales, promotions and free gifts always attract customers. Craze of purchasing newly released product on discounted price, or original price with free gifts will charm customers into buying the product. Even if the customer doesn’t buy the product, brand name definitely grows and comes into light with these advertisements.

RolexVSFossil - Youtube

Considering the exponential growth in online video viewing with more than 4 billion videos viewed every day, YouTube has become one of the largest platforms for advertisement and marketing.  Companies can easily create and upload their own videos and can also advertise on other people’s videos. Also, with the universal Google search option, it’s not too hard to switch to the videos tab and easily look for the YouTube links for topic you might be searching about. Moreover, these YouTube videos can be shared and even embedded on most other social networking sites which makes it really convenient to keep consistency of advertisement data over different platforms.  But despite these facts, even the biggest brands don’t use YouTube to its full potential. The number of subscribers for brands are really low as compared to their likes, followers and viewers on other widely used social media applications like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
In this blog, we will look at the YouTube channels of the two famous watch brands – Rolex and Fossil. Rolex, being one of the top watch brands has 41,206 channel subscribers and Fossil, has 2,303 channel subscribers. There is no consistency in terms of the frequency of the videos uploaded to each of the channels.
Fossil posts less than 1 video/month on an average with the latest video posted 3 months ago. Existing videos from before are mostly about introducing the new brand products – watches or other accessories to the market. Videos has one line descriptions of what the video is about. Below listed are few of the most viewed videos on Fossil channel in sequence.
Introducing Fossil Q - An activity tracker for the curiously active. - 1,429,960 views, 4 months ago

Fossil Mothers Day Product Tiered Offer - 312,516 views, 10 months ago

What's Your Dad's (Style) Personality? -  286,095 views - 9 months ago

Tick Tick Tock...Father's Day! -  136,382 views, 9 months ago

Rolex posts videos mostly for the release of new watches in the market with videos focusing on the look and specifications of the product. There are some videos highlighting the sports activities and other events led by Rolex and few other videos featuring famous celebrities promoting Rolex. Video Upload frequency on Rolex channel is not consistent just like Fossil. There are 5-6 videos posted a day when new product is releasing, with no videos at all for other months. Some of the most viewed and recent videos are listed below with the details.
New Rolex Cosmograph Daytona – Baselworld 2016 - 20,049 views, 1 day ago

The Rolex Way - The Day-Date 40 - 15,762 views, 3 months ago

The Rolex Way - Datejust - 111,333 views - 6 months ago

CHI Geneva 2015 highlights presented by Rolex - 7,683 views - 3 months ago

The most successful videos on each of the channels are about the new product releases. This is the main reason behind the popularity of the two videos. A new innovative design and video demo attracts lots of customers who eagerly wait for something new from their favourite brands.
This study of two of the most popular watch brands – YouTube channels definitely proved that the power of sharing videos on YouTube is definitely being underestimated by the marketing representatives of these brands and even other famous brands.

RolexVSFossil - Instagram

Instagram is one of the most used social networking applications now, for photo/video sharing that can be taken privately from app or other sites like Facebook, twitter etc. From a mere platform to just post pictures, Instagram has come out to be of great market value now. Instagram has become a perfect opportunity/platform for businesses to get promotions, updates and product design photos to their targeted audience.
In this blog, we will present the results of Instagram page study of popular watch brands Rolex and Fossil. Instagram, being a more visual and picture essential platform, both brands post pictures and videos featuring their product – watches. Fossil mainly posts promotions and offers for its customers on watches and other accessories and Rolex basically launches its watches and keeps audience updated with the product release dates on Instagram. Fossil has 440K followers and 1470 posts as of today, whereas Rolex has over 742k followers and 267 posts on Instagram. Both brands keep up with the 50/50 rule, but just putting as many efforts in promoting their products and marketing as much they do in the quality and design of their watches. Rolex is fairly active on Instagram with 2-3 posts/day on average and next is Fossil with 1-2 posts/day on an average. Both brands have link to their official webpage in the description of their profile.
Here, we found two of the recent most successful posts of Rolex and Fossil on Instagram.

RolexVSFossil - Twitter

Twitter is another great social platform after Facebook when it comes to sharing and promoting business targeting big population. Regular tweets about products, designs and promotions with visual content attract customers and grow business
In this blog, we will be looking at how Rolex and Fossil, two of the high-end watch brands in their own ways, use twitter for their business.Rolex twitter account is protected and follow requests are not accepted. Rolex followers and tweets aren't visible to all users and Fossil has 69.3K followers on Twitter. Both brands tweet regularly about their new products, new designs and technologies regularly and keep their followers updated with the latest promotions, discounts and other offers. Fossil is quite consistent with its regular tweets (average 2/day) with tweets of new designs in the market of not just watches but other accessories like wallets, handbags and belts. Rolex, on other hand, posts tweets less frequently  (avg. 3-4/week) as compared to Fossil because of it specializing primarily in watches. Both brands practice 50/50 rule for designing and marketing. Rolex with their expensive and uniquely styled watches spends equal amount of time in promoting their products/designs in the market. Fossil with high quality and low priced watches, also keep their followers posted about their latest designs and releases. 50/50 rule has definitely proved successful for these brands. Businesses like these certainly know how to impress their customers with high-end designs and nicely worded promotional posts on social media. Listed below, we gathered some of the unique keyword sentences used by Fossil and Rolex in their posts to emphasize on the quality and excellence of their respective products.
